New hotline launched to report environmental and forest damage in Sri Lanka

The Minister of Environment announced that a new hotline — 1995 — will be operational from tomorrow, enabling the public to report any incidents of damage to Sri Lanka’s forest system or the environment.

The main aim of introducing this hotline is to improve the effectiveness of forest and wildlife conservation efforts and to prevent and combat forest-related crimes.

According to reports, security forces and officers from the Department of Wildlife Conservation in the relevant areas will take immediate action based on information received through the hotline.

In addition, data gathered through this system will be integrated and analyzed to create a centralized database of forest crimes. This information will be used to identify high-risk areas, monitor trends, and formulate strategic measures for swift response and long-term conservation.
