New high commissioner, 4 ambassadors appointed

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has appointed a new High Commissioner and four Ambassadors to strengthen Sri Lanka’s diplomatic service.

The appointments were officially handed over during a ceremony at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (07th), followed by a brief discussion with the President.

The newly appointed diplomats are:

  • Ms. R. S. Khan Azard – Ambassador-designate to Qatar
  • Mr. W. G. S. Prasanna – High Commissioner-designate to New Zealand
  • Ms. S. K. Gunasekera – Ambassador-designate to Russia
  • Mr. L. P. Ratnayaka – Ambassador-designate to Kuwait
  • Mr. A. S. K. Seneviratne – Ambassador-designate to Egypt

President Dissanayake expressed confidence in the appointees, emphasizing their role in enhancing Sri Lanka’s global image, fostering bilateral ties, and promoting mutual cooperation.

He urged them to prioritize the welfare of Sri Lankan expatriates, particularly in regions like the Middle East, South Korea, and Japan, while ensuring equitable support for overseas workers.

The President also highlighted the importance of attracting foreign investments and expanding global market opportunities for Sri Lankan entrepreneurs as critical diplomatic objectives.

He assured government support for these efforts and announced plans to monitor progress through follow-up discussions.

The appointees, selected for their extensive experience and expertise in foreign service, will assume their duties shortly to represent Sri Lanka and advance its global engagement and economic aspirations.
