President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has appointed Professor Susiripala Manawadu as the new Governor of the Southern Province, according to the President’s Media Division.
The appointment has been made under Article 154B of the Constitution and came into effect on 24 February 2026.
Professor Manawadu currently serves as Vice Chairman of the State Advisory Sub-Committee on Radio, Newspapers and Social Media of the Arts Council of Sri Lanka.
He has previously served as Head of the Department of Sinhala and as Senior Assistant Librarian at the University of Ruhuna.
