
The Railways Department has introduced a special train, Ella Odyssey, to enhance the travel experience for both local and foreign tourists on the scenic Kandy-to-Ella route.
The Ella Odyssey commenced its maiden journey from Kandy Railway Station at 9:45 a.m. today, marking a new milestone in up-country railway tourism.
Operating every Saturday and Sunday, the train departs from Kandy at 9:45 a.m. and reaches Demodara at 5:22 p.m., before making the return journey at 6:00 p.m.
With a total capacity of 396 passengers, the train offers reserved seating in first, second, and third class, priced at Rs. 7,000, Rs. 6,000, and Rs. 5,000, respectively.
The Ella Odyssey makes 10-minute stops at several scenic stations, including Peradeniya, Nawalapitiya, Hatton, and Ella, as well as at the famous Nine Arches Bridge.
To enhance the sightseeing experience, the train runs at a slower speed at selected viewpoints along the route.
The introduction of the Ella Odyssey aims to boost tourism by offering a comfortable and immersive journey through Sri Lanka’s breathtaking hill country.
