Kasun Wellahewa, the former Additional Commissioner of the Department of Buddhist Affairs, has been appointed as the Acting Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs with immediate effect.
The Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs announced the appointment following the removal of Premasiri Rathnayake from the position.
The Cabinet decided to remove Rathnayake due to allegations that he failed to properly fulfill his duties as Commissioner General.
According to the Ministry, Rathnayake was accused of not effectively carrying out the responsibilities entrusted to the Department of Buddhist Affairs.
A charge sheet outlining these concerns was previously submitted to the Cabinet, which led to the decision to relieve him of his post.
