A massive new snack distribution centre in Melbourne’s west is being celebrated as a strong endorsement of Victoria’s status as Australia’s food and beverage capital.
The Allan government highlighted the $130 million facility as a major investment that reinforces Victoria’s position as a prime location for business.
The distribution centre, owned by Mondelez Australia—the parent company of Cadbury—is located in Truganina and is twice the size of the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
Mondelez Australia CEO Toby Smith said the centre will handle 4 million blocks of chocolate every week, year-round.
The facility incorporates advanced technology, including robotic cranes and conveyor systems for automated handling, and employs around 200 staff.
Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan officially inaugurated the centre, emphasizing that the investment signals that Melbourne and Victoria are open for business and attract top investments.
All 450 million Cadbury Easter eggs consumed by Australians annually will be distributed through the Truganina centre before Easter.
Industry Minister Danny Pearson joked that if anyone asks where the Easter bunny lives, the answer is Truganina.
Premier Allan shared that her personal favourite Cadbury treat is Turkish Delight, calling it “slightly controversial.”
