A media briefing to raise awareness about the National Youth Services Council’s One Million Volunteers programme was held yesterday (26th) at the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Officials outlined details of the community service initiatives scheduled to be carried out in the Badulla District under the programme.
Accordingly, nearly 1,000 youth volunteers are expected to engage in a series of activities in Badulla on December 27 and 28.
Planned activities include repairing schools damaged by disasters, cleaning irrigation systems and roads, conducting entertainment programmes for residents at relief centres, and distributing essential items to affected families and children.
Speaking at the briefing, Chairman of the National Youth Services Council and Director General of Youth Affairs, Supun Wijerathna, said that following the recent labour operation in the Chilaw area, the second phase of the One Million Volunteers initiative will be implemented in the Badulla District.
He added that around 1,000 young volunteers are expected to take part in the programmes.
Wijerathna also noted that registration for the One Million Volunteers programme remains open, and interested individuals can register by visiting the website volunteer.nysc.lk.
