Nationwide “Nation United” anti-Drug operation to launch on 30th of October

Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala has announced that four key sectors will support the upcoming National Anti-Drug Operation, launched under the theme “Nation United – National Drive.”

The Minister stated that the National Council on Drug Abuse, District Councils, Regional Councils, and Public Security Committees will collaborate to ensure the effective implementation of the program.

The nationwide operation is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. on October 30 at Sugathadasa Stadium.

According to the Police, operations conducted over the past year have led to the seizure of 1,482 kilograms and 820 grams of heroin, resulting in the arrest of 59,243 suspects. In addition, 2,542 kilograms and 454 grams of crystal methamphetamine (Ice) were confiscated, with 67,762 suspects taken into custody.

Authorities also reported the seizure of 582 kilograms and 136 grams of hashish, leading to 1,444 arrests, and 14,434 kilograms and 468 grams of cannabis, resulting in 59,482 arrests. Furthermore, 32 kilograms and 642 grams of cocaine were seized, leading to 86 arrests.

Police noted that 2,921 suspects were arrested in connection with the recovery of 39,617 narcotic pills and capsules during the year’s operations.
