Measures have been taken to suspend the official duties of Dr. Rukshan Bellana, who served as the Deputy Director of the National Hospital in Colombo.
The suspension was communicated through an official letter issued under the letterhead of the Ministry of Health and Mass Media.
According to preliminary investigations conducted by the Ministry, Dr. Bellana, while serving as a government official in a position of responsibility, is alleged to have made statements via various media platforms that led to a controversial situation and contributed to public unrest.
The letter further states that formal disciplinary proceedings will be initiated in connection with the matter.
Speaking to Ada Derana, Dr. Rukshan Bellana confirmed that he has been suspended from his duties pending the outcome of the disciplinary investigation.
