National freedom front condemns government statements undermining public confidence in the judiciary

The National Freedom Front (NFF) has strongly condemned recent statements made by the government, claiming they undermine public confidence in the judiciary.

In a statement, party leader and former Member of Parliament Wimal Weerawansa said that remarks made by government representatives during International Workers’ Day events had raised serious doubts and mistrust about the conduct of judges.

He further alleged that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake had publicly referred to upcoming court decisions and even mentioned possible dates, while encouraging the public to be prepared to welcome those rulings.

Weerawansa questioned whether such statements indicate that the country’s judicial process has become politicised.

He also stressed that these remarks raise significant concerns about the independence of the judiciary in Sri Lanka.

According to the statement, similar comments were made not only by the President but also by several ministers during May Day rallies, potentially contributing to growing public suspicion regarding the conduct of judges.
