NASA has successfully launched its newest space telescope, SPHEREx, into orbit from California.
The primary goal of this mission is to map the entire sky and study the formation and evolution of galaxies over billions of years.
With a budget of $488 million, the cone-shaped SPHEREx telescope is designed to orbit Earth and conduct four full-sky surveys over two years.
NASA also hopes the telescope will help explain the universe’s rapid expansion in its early stages.
Additionally, SPHEREx will investigate whether there are signs of life in the icy clouds between stars where new solar systems are forming.
