Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa has voiced concern over the recent unrest in Nepal, highlighting a trend of protests across South Asia escalating into extremist movements.
In a post on X, Rajapaksa noted that demonstrations in countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal are increasingly causing bloodshed, undermining key institutions, and disrupting national stability under the pretext of public protest.
He urged regional leaders to unite in addressing the issue and uncover the “hidden hands” driving this new form of extremism, warning that other nations could also be affected if the trend continues unchecked.
“Protests by citizens should take place in a democratic manner, but what we are witnessing is a new form of extremism with hidden agendas that must be tackled collectively by all leaders,” Rajapaksa stated, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance amid sensitive geopolitical conditions.
