Namal urges calm amid global tensions

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna National Organiser Namal Rajapaksa has issued a statement highlighting the impact of global conflicts on Sri Lanka, urging preparedness, dialogue and the protection of citizens both at home and abroad.

Referring to the current tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran, Rajapaksa said that small nations often feel the ripple effects of great power conflicts. He pointed out that disruptions to trade, energy supplies and global supply chains can directly affect livelihoods, markets and essential services in Sri Lanka.

Reflecting on Sri Lanka’s own history, he noted that decades of war demonstrated how deeply lives, communities and economies can be impacted by prolonged conflict. He strongly condemned violence in all forms and emphasized that even during the latter stages of Sri Lanka’s internal conflict, the country sought dialogue and diplomacy as the path to lasting peace.

Rajapaksa called on the government to anticipate potential risks, strengthen contingency plans and extend support to citizens who may be affected by international crises. He expressed hope that Sri Lankans living and working in affected regions remain safe, stressing that protecting citizens at home and abroad must always be a top priority.

He further stated that preparing for possible consequences, encouraging discussion and maintaining stability are the most effective ways to ensure long-term security and prosperity, both within Sri Lanka and across the wider region.
