Namal urges authorities to take disaster situation seriously

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa today called on the government to take the disaster situation more seriously and prioritise relief for affected communities.

Speaking in Parliament, Rajapaksa stressed the need to allocate adequate funds to support children from disaster-affected schools, particularly to help them purchase school uniforms.

He pointed out inconsistencies in the government’s assistance plans, noting that while an initial payment of Rs. 25,000 had been promised for schoolchildren, this amount was later reduced to Rs. 15,000.

“These matters must be taken seriously, as children need proper support to return to school,” he said.
