Namal Rajapaksa warns government: “don’t test our patience”

Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa cautioned the government not to move towards further suppression, warning that the Opposition too has a limit to its patience.

He made these remarks yesterday while attending the Gamin Gamata (village to village) programme in Aluthgama.

Rajapaksa accused the government of attempting to cover up present allegations by carrying out politically motivated arrests. He stressed that arresting a state leader would not solve the country’s pressing problems.

He further alleged that the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has neither a generation to protect nor a country to safeguard.

Highlighting his party’s stance, Rajapaksa said:
“We are a political force that has always loved this country, placed our feet firmly on its soil, and worked tirelessly for the nation. Of course, our governments may have had shortcomings, but today, from Dondra Head to Point Pedro, the younger generation demands a new political culture. This is not about revenge. The challenge we face is state terrorism being used to undermine democracy, with the regime even violating the constitution. We are prepared to confront this challenge. But we warn the government—do not resort to suppression, because patience too has its limits.”
