SLPP National Organizer and MP Namal Rajapaksa has expressed concern over the treatment of Major General (Retd.) Suresh Sallay while in custody, questioning why many activists who previously campaigned against the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) have remained silent on the issue.
In a statement, Namal Rajapaksa noted that Sallay was being detained under the PTA rather than under a magistrate’s remand order, arguing that the silence of anti-PTA activists raises concerns about consistency and principle. He emphasized that justice for the victims of the 2019 Easter Sunday Attacks must be pursued without political influence, bias, or selective application of the law.
Rajapaksa further stated that accountability is essential but warned that investigations driven by political motives would not deliver genuine justice. He also pointed out that individuals linked to findings in previous commission reports are now involved in leading the investigations, raising concerns about the credibility and impartiality of the process.
