Namal Rajapaksa: Ministers accumulating social capital as public bears economic burden

Namal Rajapaksa, a Member of Parliament from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, alleged that government ministers are focused on building social capital while the public continues to bear a severe economic burden.

Speaking in Parliament, he said people are struggling under heavy tax pressures and rising living costs, which have made daily life increasingly difficult.

Rajapaksa also pointed out that despite recent fuel price increases, fuel allowances for government employees have not been revised and remain at March levels.

He further questioned whether the government would follow through on its promise to increase public sector salaries every six months, noting that the cost of living has surged significantly. He also called on authorities to clarify whether any relief measures or allowances would be introduced for private sector employees facing similar hardships.
