SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa has strongly criticized the ruling NPP government, blaming it for a surge in criminal activity and administrative disorder in Sri Lanka.
He claimed that the country’s law and order system is experiencing a “complete breakdown” under the current administration.
Taking to social media platform X, Rajapaksa pointed to a string of violent and concerning incidents reported across the country in recent months.
“There have been 50 daylight shootings since January,” he said, questioning the government’s ability to protect the public.
Rajapaksa also raised concerns over a container scandal, alleging that 323 containers were released in January without proper inspection.
He claimed that these containers contained controversial goods and criticized the government’s continued refusal to take responsibility.
Further intensifying his criticism, he mentioned a recent presidential pardon allegedly granted to a fraud suspect during Vesak.
The PMD has denied any involvement in the inmate’s release and stated that a CID investigation is underway to uncover the truth.
Rajapaksa questioned whether prison officials had acted without official authorization in releasing the inmate.
He concluded by accusing the NPP of abandoning its core values of good governance, stating that the party has failed the people just six months into power.
