Namal Rajapaksa condemns sanctions on war heroes

MP Namal Rajapaksa has issued a statement on X regarding the UK’s sanctions against Sri Lankan war heroes.

He asserted that the sanctions are not about human rights but rather the result of continued pressure from LTTE supporters.

The MP criticized Western politicians, accusing them of using money and influence to serve their own interests, putting Sri Lanka’s reconciliation efforts at risk.

Rajapaksa reminded the public that the freedom enjoyed today was achieved through difficult decisions, urging both the North and South to recognize this.

He warned that these sanctions undermine troop morale, potentially affecting their willingness to defend the nation in future crises.

Furthermore, he claimed that those behind the sanctions do not genuinely care about the Tamil community’s safety or well-being.

In his statement, Rajapaksa reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to protecting war veterans, stating that their sacrifices ensured peace, and their legacy must not be undermined.
