SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa has accused the government of attempting to downplay alleged irregularities related to payments made through the Road Development Authority (RDA), following recent denials by the administration.
In a post on X, Rajapaksa responded to Deputy Minister Prasanna Gunasena, who had described allegations of duplicate RDA payments as baseless.
Rajapaksa claimed that official records suggested otherwise, stating that a Bank of Ceylon “Recall of Funds” notice showed Rs. 263 million had been mistakenly remitted to contractors due to a reported system error.
He further alleged that more than Rs. 51 million remains unaccounted for.
“While Deputy Minister Prasanna Gunasena calls allegations of duplicate RDA payments baseless, official records tell a different story,” Rajapaksa said, adding that the matter raised serious questions about how such financial errors were being handled.
He also criticised the government’s response, referring to Minister Bimal Rathnayake, and accused authorities of denying responsibility despite what he described as documented evidence.
Rajapaksa further referred to previous controversies, including the alleged Treasury email fraud case, and urged the government to be transparent and accept responsibility instead of rejecting the allegations.
