SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa told Parliament today that two intelligence officers, who had previously ignored warnings about the Easter Sunday bomb attacks, have repeated similar negligence by disregarding prior alerts regarding two containers carrying narcotic drugs.

Rajapaksa stated that the Department of Customs cleared two containers arriving from Tehran despite receiving intelligence that they contained drugs. He noted that intelligence units had prior information about these shipments, similar to the case of 323 red-labelled containers that were previously released without any investigations.

He added that the same two intelligence officers had failed to act on warnings about the Easter Sunday attacks. Some individuals responsible for those attacks have since been identified, former President Maithripala Sirisena paid compensation to the victims, and two former IGPs held accountable are now in jail. Despite this, the current government had appointed the same intelligence officers who neglected prior Easter attack warnings to high-ranking positions.
