MP claims official and NGOs behind grade Six module controversy

An opposition MP has claimed that an official named Dharshana Samaraweera, along with a few NGOs promoting homosexuality, are behind the controversy surrounding the Grade Six module issue.

Speaking in Parliament yesterday, MP Dayasiri Jayasekara said, “The official Dharshana Samaraweera is connected to the NPP, and his daughter contested for the Pannala Pradeshiya Sabha. He prepared the module with a group of teachers from the Anuradhapura District. However, the problem lies not only in the sex education content but also in numerous grammatical errors in the module.”

MP Jayasekara questioned why Samaraweera has not yet been questioned by the CID, noting, “Other officials are taken to the CID almost every day, while Samaraweera has been spared.”

He also pointed out that some organizations promoting homosexuality, including Think Equal, which is linked to the Grassroots Trust, are involved in the matter. “There is also another organization whose member is an MP,” he added.

Furthermore, the MP highlighted international practices regarding internet access for children. “In countries such as the USA and UK, children under 16 are prohibited from accessing certain websites. In Finland, children are allowed to log into websites through teacher-controlled platforms. The Sri Lankan government should take these measures into consideration,” he stressed.
