More than 50 people arrested during operation in Melbourne’s west, police say

More than 50 people have been arrested during a two-night police operation in Melbourne’s western suburbs targeting car theft and dangerous driving.

Police said that over two nights in late March, 51 individuals were taken into custody for various offences, including dangerous driving and driving with a suspended licence.

Authorities also recovered two stolen vehicles during the operation.

The operation, which ran on March 25 and 26, is set to continue intermittently in the area.

During the crackdown, police arrested a 39-year-old man riding an e-bike who was allegedly wanted on four outstanding warrants.

A 47-year-old man from Wyndham Vale was also arrested after he was allegedly seen driving a white Ford Falcon with false registration plates. He was later charged with driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without a licence, and breaching bail conditions.

Peter West said officers were patrolling the Wyndham area both on the ground and from the air while the community slept.

He warned that operations like this are unpredictable, urging anyone considering car theft or dangerous driving to think twice before acting.

Operation Shows, which began in 2022, has led to more than 1,200 arrests and over 2,000 offences across the Wyndham, Maribyrnong, and Hobsons Bay areas.
