It is reported that more than 1.1 million lightning strikes have occurred in many parts of Australia in 24 hours.
Although it was declared that lightning never strikes the same place twice, the weather department points out that lightning struck more than 1.1 million times on the previous day.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology’s Weatherzone lightning tracker data, these lightning strikes have occurred across Central Australia, Queensland and South Australia during Sunday’s stormy conditions.
A total of 719,068 lightning strikes were recorded within 800 km of Uluru and 328,627 lightning strikes were reported in south-eastern Queensland.
About 95,000 lightning strikes have occurred across northern Australia and it is also said that the occurrence of lightning at this time is unusual.
The lightning has been reported at a time when people in the state of Queensland are under a double weather warning for thunderstorms and heat waves.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued this dual warning as severe storms and heat wave conditions have affected large areas of the state.
