The Sri Lanka Air Quality Index (SL AQI) recorded moderate air quality levels in most cities yesterday, indicating relatively stable environmental conditions.
The Vehicular Emission Test Trust Fund of the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) reported slightly unhealthy air quality levels in Galle, Puttalam, Badulla, and Hambantota, highlighting localized pollution concerns.
Moderate air quality levels were observed in Nuwara Eliya, Batticaloa, and Kalutara, providing a safer breathing environment in these regions.
The department cautioned that polluted wind flows from the northern region under transboundary conditions might cause air quality to deteriorate to slightly unhealthy or unhealthy levels in the coming days.
As a precaution, the public is encouraged to wear face masks and seek medical attention if sensitive individuals experience breathing difficulties due to potential air quality changes.
