Ministry urges public to refrain from sharing sensitive images of children online

The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs has urged the public not to share social media posts containing images of children linked to a Facebook account under the name Nuwan Sandakelum.

The Ministry warned that sharing these images could compromise the identity, privacy, and wellbeing of the children involved.

The Facebook post in question alleges that the individual’s wife has left him and their children, and that he is struggling to care for them.

It further claims that he is willing to give the children away before taking his own life.

The Ministry confirmed that Sri Lanka Police have already intervened in the matter.

A court case related to the family’s marital issues is ongoing, and temporary custody of the children has been granted to their grandmother.

The grandmother is caring for the children under the supervision of probation officers.

The Ministry stated that further intervention will depend on the court’s final ruling.

If the court recommends changes in custody or institutional care, the Department of Probation and Childcare Services will take immediate action.

The Ministry emphasized the importance of protecting children’s dignity and urged the public to act responsibly when engaging with sensitive content online.
