
The Ministerial Committee appointed to establish the proposed Education Council held its first meeting yesterday (29th) at the Education Ministry.
The committee, formed in line with the Government’s Policy Statement, aims to enhance the overall quality of education in the country. The meeting was attended by Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, Education and Higher Education Deputy Minister Dr. Madura Seneviratne, and Mahinda Jayasinghe, Chairman of the Parliamentary Sub-Committee on the Establishment of the Education Council.
Committee Chairman Professor O. G. Dayaratne outlined the committee’s planned activities and confirmed that a comprehensive report detailing the scope, powers, and membership of the proposed council would soon be submitted to the Minister.
Representatives from the National Education Council and the Public Service Commission were also present. The session included discussions on potential challenges in establishing and implementing the Education Council.
