Minister says most hospitalizations in SL result from accidents

Health and Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa stated that the majority of hospitalizations in Sri Lanka result from accidents, many of which are preventable.

He emphasized that reducing such accidents would benefit both the national health system and the country’s economy.

The Minister made these remarks during a special public awareness walk held yesterday morning (12), organized under his patronage to engage the community and recognize the efforts of medical staff treating accident victims.

The walk started at Colombo National Hospital, passed through Viharamaha Devi Park, and concluded at Independence Square.

Dr. Jayatissa urged that as Sri Lanka progresses economically, accident prevention measures should be implemented across all sectors. He also expressed hope that public education and active involvement of health personnel would help reduce accidents and ease the burden on hospitals.
