Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Nalinda Jayatissa says several high-profile corruption cases involving a number of prominent politicians are expected to be taken up in courts in the near future.
Speaking at the post-Cabinet media briefing held at the Government Information Department, he stated that cases linked to figures such as Wimal Weerawansa, Piyankara Jayaratne, Rajitha Senaratne, Johnston Fernando, Sajin Vaas Gunawardena, Chamara Sampath, Sarana Gunawardena, Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, Mervyn Silva, Namal Rajapaksa, Shasheendra Rajapaksa, Champika Ranawaka, Keheliya Rambukwella, and Yoshitha Rajapaksa are among those expected to proceed in court.
Jayatissa noted that while some cases may be postponed, their progress can be tracked through publicly available court schedules. He pointed out that proceedings held in open court are reported by the media, and said there is a general expectation that outcomes will reflect the evidence presented.
He emphasised that what matters most is that the legal process continues without obstruction, regardless of delays.
The Minister also highlighted that public expectation for accountability remains strong, adding that people across political divides want those found guilty of corruption to be punished through due process.
He further noted that the establishment of a three-judge High Court bench is expected to expedite proceedings, allowing cases to move faster and providing a sense of reassurance to the public.
Jayatissa said that a majority of citizens are closely watching these cases and are eager to see them concluded, stressing that confidence in the legal system depends on timely and fair adjudication.
