Minister Hadunneththi meets gem and jewellery industry leaders in Thailand

Minister of Industries Sunil Hadunneththi met with representatives of the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association (TGJTA) in Bangkok on 21 February to discuss ways to strengthen Sri Lanka’s gem and jewellery sector.

The TGJTA delegation, led by chairman Chomphol Phornchindarak, explored opportunities for technology exchange between Sri Lanka’s gem-cutting expertise and Thailand’s advanced heat treatment methods, as well as access to internationally recognised laboratory facilities in Thailand.

The discussions also covered coordinated participation in global gem and jewellery exhibitions. Dr. Chaminda Ekanayake of the National Gem and Jewellery Association attended the meeting.

The initiative aims to attract major international buyers, increase the global value of Sri Lanka’s gem resources, open new market opportunities, and support the local economy.
