The military personnel assigned to former presidents will be withdrawn starting next week, according to Public Security Minister Tiran Alles.
Addressing Parliament yesterday (17th), the Minister said that apart from security provided by the police, all military personnel assigned to former presidents will be removed. He explained that security provisions would be reviewed and adjusted in line with the biannual security assessment conducted every six months.
The Minister revealed the number of security personnel currently assigned to each former president and the associated costs.
He stated that the government had spent 1,448 million rupees over the past 11 months on security for former presidents.
Minister Alles emphasized that the total expenditure of 1,448 million rupees within 11 months reflects a significant financial burden on public funds. He described the situation as a serious concern, highlighting the need to rationalize these expenses.
