The proposed metro bus service will be developed into a new culture and a fresh trend in the public transport sector, becoming a model for Sri Lanka’s future transport system, Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways Prasanna Gunasena said yesterday.
Addressing Parliament, he stated that the newly established Metro Bus Company will function as a distinct model under the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB), with its own recruitment process, salary structure, and uniform.
Transport and Highways Minister Bimal Rathnayake added that the pilot phase of the metro bus service is expected to be launched by July next year, beginning with 70 buses operating in Colombo.
He noted that the recruitment process for the service is expected to be completed by March and April next year.
