Melbourne ranked among the 10 smelliest cities

The 10 smelliest areas in Melbourne have been identified by the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), based on odor complaints from various parts of Victoria.

Cranbourne has topped the list, with 884 complaints related to landfill odors. The EPA notes that it is unfortunate to receive such complaints in an area where house prices are rising, with Cranbourne’s current median price at $660,000, up 2.2% from last year.

Other areas with high odor complaints include Botanic Ridge (463 complaints for landfill odors), Brooklyn (444 complaints for various odors), and Narre Warren South (355 complaints for landfill odors).

  1. Cranbourne – 884 complaints (Landfill odor)
  2. Botanic Ridge – 463 complaints (Landfill odor)
  3. Brooklyn – 444 complaints (Various odors)
  4. Narre Warren South – 355 complaints (Landfill odor)
  5. Reservoir – 354 complaints (Manufacturing odor)
  6. Wangaratta – 352 complaints (Wastewater odor)
  7. Warrnambool – 228 complaints (Industrial odor, site under investigation)
  8. Pakenham – 187 complaints (Abattoir wastewater, EPA action ongoing)
  9. Lynbrook – 182 complaints (Landfill odor)
  10. Hampton Park – 175 complaints (Landfill odor)
