Melbourne has been ranked the second fittest city in Australia and the fittest in the state of Victoria, according to a new study by Net World Sports analysing the country’s fitness trends.
The research assessed the 50 most populated Australian cities using indicators such as overall health outcomes, physical activity habits, and access to gyms and recreational facilities.
Data for the rankings were sourced from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), the National Health Survey (NHS), and Open Street Maps.
Cities were evaluated on a normalised scale from 0 to 100, with higher scores reflecting healthier, more active communities.
The findings highlight Melbourne’s strong performance in promoting active lifestyles and maintaining accessible fitness infrastructure.
