A Melbourne animal hospital has introduced an innovative program to help cats relax and socialize by allowing them to watch screens.
The Lort Smith Animal Hospital in Melbourne believes that this approach can reduce stress and improve socialization among cats and kittens.
Around 50 cats from the hospital’s Campbellfield Adoption Animal Center have participated in the program, where experiments were conducted using iPads and television programs.
The center has observed that the adopted cats enjoy interacting with staff and particularly prefer watching videos of birds and fish.
While cats are generally less interested in screens than dogs, a researcher from the University of Melbourne noted that this method can still serve as an environmental enrichment for them.
