Medical Lab raided for Reusing Blood Collection Tubes

Sri Lanka’s Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has conducted a raid on a private medical laboratory in Laggala after uncovering serious violations that posed a threat to patient safety.

The raid was carried out by CAA investigation officers following information received about unsafe practices at the facility. During the inspection, officers found that blood collection tubes intended for single use were being washed and reused on multiple patients.

Investigators also discovered a stock of expired blood testing tubes at the laboratory, raising further concerns over hygiene standards and public health risks.

CAA officials stated that such practices endanger patients’ lives and constitute clear violations of health and consumer protection regulations. Legal action is being initiated against those responsible in accordance with the law.

The Consumer Affairs Authority said it will continue to conduct regular inspections and raids on medical and commercial establishments that compromise public safety for financial gain, and urged the public to report any suspected violations.
