NSW Health has issued a measles alert after an infectious person visited several locations in western Sydney.
The individual, who recently returned from South-East Asia, where measles outbreaks are ongoing in countries like Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia, was infectious during their visit.
The affected locations include a pathology clinic and chemist in Rouse Hill, as well as the emergency department waiting room at Norwest Private Hospital.
The person visited these sites on Friday and over the weekend.
Measles is spread through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
Dr. Catherine Bateman, Director of Public Health for Western Sydney Local Health District, stated that although there is no ongoing risk at these locations, anyone who visited them during the listed times should monitor for symptoms.
Symptoms to watch for include fever, runny nose, sore eyes, and a cough, followed by a red, blotchy rash that typically spreads from the head to the rest of the body.
Dr. Bateman emphasized the importance of contacting a GP or emergency department ahead of time if symptoms develop, to avoid exposing others.
