Measles alert issued at Sydney airport

Health authorities have issued a measles alert at Sydney Airport after an international passenger tested positive for the disease.

The passenger arrived in Sydney from Honolulu on Jetstar flight JQ4 at 4:29 PM on January 17.

The tourist reportedly returned to Sydney before traveling to the Gold Coast, potentially exposing others to the virus.

Dr. Christine Selvy, Director of the Infectious Diseases Branch, emphasized the importance of measles vaccination, noting that vaccinated individuals are minimally affected by the disease.

Authorities are urging Australians to get vaccinated against measles and remain vigilant, especially when traveling abroad.

This incident highlights the need for ongoing awareness and prevention measures to reduce the spread of measles.
