Marvan Atapattu urges social media ban for Sri Lanka cricketers

Former Sri Lanka captain Marvan Atapattu has urged a complete social media ban for national cricketers, claiming that online distractions are undermining players’ focus and professionalism.

He said that those representing the country should dedicate their full attention to training and performance, suggesting that stepping away from social media — at least temporarily — would help restore discipline and commitment within the team.

“If players feel they need social media, they should retire from cricket. When you represent your country, your focus should be entirely on performance and preparation,” Atapattu emphasized.

A former captain across all formats, Atapattu is widely respected for his discipline and work ethic, and his remarks come amid growing concerns about the impact of social media on players’ mental focus and team unity.
