The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the establishment of the ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ Fund, created to support national recovery efforts following the extensive destruction caused by Cyclone Ditwa, one of the most severe natural disasters in recent Sri Lankan history.
The fund will operate as a statutory body under the Presidential Secretariat, with its Management Committee consisting of key representatives from both the government and private sectors.
Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, has been appointed Chairman of the Committee, while G.M.R.D. Aponso, Senior Additional Secretary to the President, will serve as its Convener.

The Management Committee has been mandated to oversee the fund’s operations, assess national recovery needs, set priorities, allocate resources, and disburse funds for approved rebuilding initiatives. According to the Presidential Media Division, the committee will ensure strict financial management, auditing, and full transparency in all fund-related activities.
