Man shot dead in suspected targeted attack as gunman remains on the run.
A man, who has not yet been formally identified, was found dead at the scene following a shooting incident early this morning.
Residents reported hearing disturbing noises shortly before a fire alarm was triggered. One resident told 9News that they heard what sounded like a faint yell around 1.00am or 1.15am, though it did not initially seem like a struggle. Others described the experience as “really, really scary,” recalling screams coming from the building.
Dozens of residents were evacuated and remained outside for several hours before being allowed back into the complex shortly before 5.30am. Witnesses said some residents were visibly distressed, with one woman suddenly “scream crying” during the ordeal.
Police have since established a crime scene, with forensic teams and homicide detectives gathering evidence throughout the morning. According to Victoria Police, the incident is being treated as a targeted attack.
The gunman is still at large, and investigations are ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
