
Ramesh Vishwaskumar Bucharvada, a passenger on board Air India flight AI171, miraculously survived the tragic crash in Ahmedabad.
The 38-year-old, who was seated in seat 11A, reportedly jumped from the aircraft during the crash.
A video circulating online shows Ramesh, visibly injured, walking away from the crash site.
Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik confirmed that one survivor from the Air India crash was located and is currently receiving medical treatment.
“Police found one survivor in seat 11A. He has been admitted to hospital and is under treatment,” Malik told ANI, adding that the death toll could rise due to the crash occurring in a residential area.
According to Aerolopa, seat 11A on Air India’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner is a window seat located in the first row of the Economy class, ahead of the wings on the right side of the aircraft.
The ill-fated flight, bound for London Gatwick, crashed just moments after takeoff, having climbed only 625 feet before losing control.
The aircraft struck the UG hostel building of B J Medical College and Hospital in Meghaninagar, causing widespread devastation.
The plane, carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members, departed from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 1:39 p.m. and lost contact with air traffic control within a minute.
As per the latest update from the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner, 204 people have been confirmed dead in the incident.
