A 67-year-old man has been charged with murder after he was arrested at Melbourne Airport on Friday while attempting to board an international flight.
The arrest follows the discovery of a body, believed to be that of a missing 53-year-old woman from Dandenong, found earlier in the day in Little River.
The woman had been reported missing on Thursday after failing to contact her family, prompting police to launch an investigation and treat the circumstances as suspicious.
Detectives from the Missing Persons Squad later located the body near Little River Road and the Princes Freeway, where a crime scene was established. Although the body has not yet been formally identified, authorities believe it is the missing woman.
The suspect, a man from Patterson Lakes, has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear before the bail and remand court.
