A 33-year-old man from Perth has been charged with trespassing after he was found on the tarmac at Perth Airport on Tuesday night.
He was intercepted by airline staff after allegedly entering the airport grounds from nearby bushland and reaching the airside area.
The man was arrested by the Australian Federal Police and later pleaded guilty in court to trespassing on Commonwealth land. He could face a maximum fine of $3,130 and is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on 25th of May.
AFP Detective Acting Inspector Aden Jama emphasized the danger of unauthorized access to tarmac areas, stating it puts both the trespasser and airport workers at risk. He warned that those who unlawfully enter airside security zones will be prosecuted.
The AFP is responsible for aviation security at nine major Australian airports. Authorities urge the public to report any suspicious activity at airports by contacting Airport Watch at 131 237.
