A 49-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly harassing multiple women by sending obscene photos, sexually explicit content, and voice recordings via WhatsApp, according to police.
The suspect, a resident of Pandulagama, Anuradhapura, was taken into custody after an investigation by the North Central Province Cyber Crimes Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Authorities launched the probe in response to complaints from victims.
Investigations revealed that the suspect had obtained the phone numbers of the women when they visited a service center to repair their motorcycles. He then used these contact details to send inappropriate messages.
The suspect was arrested on 17th of February and presented before the Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court on 18th of February . He has been remanded until 25th of February .
Further inquiries are being conducted by the Cyber Crimes Investigation Division.
