Police in Walapane have arrested a suspect following the circulation of a video on social media showing a cat being subjected to severe cruelty.
The suspect, identified as Dhanaraja Srivikrema, was taken into custody after complaints were filed by animal rights activists. He was produced before court and remanded for 14 days, until 24 February.
Animal welfare group Justice For Animals & Nature (JAN), which led the complaint, confirmed that the abused cat has been rescued and placed in a safe environment.
