The Malwathu Maha Viharaya in Kandy has firmly denied social media claims that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa requested the temple’s intervention to stop the arrest of former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa.
In an official statement, the temple dismissed the reports as entirely false and misleading, clarifying that no such request was made and that no related meeting or phone call had taken place.
The temple further warned that legal action would be taken against those spreading these baseless claims with the intention of stirring public unrest.
