Maldivian president Mohamed Muizzu arrives in Sri Lanka

The President of the Maldives, Mohamed Muizzu, has arrived in Sri Lanka at the invitation of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

He was accompanied by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed and a delegation of around 20 senior officials.

The delegation arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport at 5:33 p.m. on SriLankan Airlines flight UL-116 from Malé.

Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya and a group of officials were present at the airport to warmly welcome the visiting President and his delegation.

This visit marks President Muizzu’s first official trip to Sri Lanka since assuming office in 2023. During his stay, he is expected to hold bilateral discussions with President Dissanayake aimed at strengthening the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are also expected to be signed, reflecting the shared commitment of both nations to enhance collaboration across multiple sectors, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism.

The Maldivian delegation is scheduled to conclude its visit on May 5.
