Major change to Australian passport starts 1st of January

Australian passport fees are set to increase again in 2025, requiring Australians to pay more when applying for a new passport.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has announced that the cost of an Australian passport will rise from $398 to $412 starting 1st of January.

This means that Australians renewing their passports in 2025 will face an additional charge of $14.

Australia’s passport, already considered one of the most expensive in the world, will continue to maintain its high cost in line with the consumer price index.

Despite the price increase, Australian passport holders enjoy visa-free access to more than 180 countries, making it one of the most powerful passports globally.
