Former President Maithripala Sirisena has reportedly requested former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga to take over leadership of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and help rebuild it.
According to an informed source, Sirisena urged Kumaratunga to withdraw the legal cases filed against his position as SLFP chairman.
The SLFP, founded by S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike, is currently entangled in legal disputes over its leadership, with Sirisena’s chairmanship being challenged.
Ms. Kumaratunga is said to have taken steps to withdraw the legal actions against Sirisena, as he has expressed unwillingness to continue holding the chairmanship.
However, according to official records at the Election Commission, Sirisena is still listed as the SLFP chairman.
